EllenorLions Hospices - Case Study
The EllenorLions Hospices provides all encompassing hospice care and a seamless service in a variety of settings including the home. This care is delivered to adults living in North West Kent; whilst the children and young people’s service – ‘chYps’ – extends further afield into Bexley and South West Kent.
Tracy Hill, Head of Support Services explains: "We have been using InfoFlex as our primary electronic patient system since the implementation in 2006 and it is used by all clinical departments across multiple sites.
InfoFlex meets all of our original design requirements. This was to have a system which could be developed internally on an on-going basis and which is secure, efficient, robust, mobile and allows for easy reporting and audit.
The design allows staff to record every significant clinical intervention and includes not only the basic patient/carer details but their assessments, care plan details, drug administration, all symptoms and changes.
With our Hospice at Home Service delivering care to patients both during the day and via our 24/7 on call service, remote access to these clinical notes proved a huge benefit very early on, with staff able to record events occurring overnight, thus reducing time in handover and ensuring 100% accuracy of information as it is recorded ‘real time’.
Throughout the development of the system, it has always reflected the valuable input from staff across all disciplines. This has been key to the user-friendly presentation of the system. The staff have been actively encouraged to contribute to the systems development with monthly user group meetings which has given ‘ownership’ of the system to all.
We undertook a major restructure and streamline of the system in 2011 following organisational changes. Due to the learning we gained over previous years we were able to complete this work in-house with the support and advice of CIMS, which for charity sector organisations such as ourselves allowed a cost-effective implementation."

Tricia Wilcocks, Head of Care & Quality states: “We have been able to develop the InfoFlex system in line with service developments resulting in access for our additional support services. Excitingly, now our Care Home Support Team can also access and add to information on patients providing a valuable link for the specialist staff.”
